wurst are going from strength to strength with another killer 12inch, this time from ulysses. latin combo features pretty much no latin elements on first listen although we think we can hear a few claps and percussion samples from a charanga 76 cover of chic that might be influencing the title. both tracks feature dubbed out drums and a warm analog feel throughout making for a pleasant listen and two solid club tracks at the same time.
this is the track that has been burning down the house this summer, this is punk-funk techno ... this is >fables and fairytales<. a deep, dark and wonderful cut of distorted house music from adam marshall and nicholas murray under the alias n/a featuring the voice of rosina… a creation that touches the heart, body and soul with an intensely passionate sound, producing one of the best crosstown rebels releases yet.
from the vocal chorus so hooky and cool - to the kind of bassline you will be humming hours after the club, this piece of lfo tech-funk brings adonis, the slits and the fatback band into the same room and melts them into one shining gem. falling horns and random stabs, a punk funk vocal that is truly infectious, crosstown rebels #54 grabs you at the beginning and doesnt let go for the next twelve minutes. a faultless anthem for the coming nights…
on the b side, the latest artist signed to rebels, the uniquely talented deniz kurtel, stretches the hook into a dubbed out trip of groove-infused techno. morphing and twisting the ferocious female voice to sensual whispers and heart-felt cries, she works more enchantment into this anthem and builds a serious groove for a dark room.
marco bernardi was an obvious choice for who got to do the first album on frustrated funk. representing his most delicate compositions ranging from freaky minimalistic electro trickery to the sweetest and intense excursions in the field of what they use to call intelligent techno . we simply picked out his best moments along the line and put it all together for this brilliant presentation. with this piece of art we show again that we don t give a shit about new styles, trends and hypes. we just want to deliver a very sweet package that you will still be playing and cherish in 15+ years from now. this deluxe double vinyl album will be sweetened with hand stamped label art, hand made screen printed sleeves and pressed on pretty pink transparent vinyl to make this package extra special. enjoy!!
here we go with part 2 of quintessentials 10, >deep, raw and real<. again 4 exclusive cuts for all you house freaks out there! jagged and the mysterious zohar are following there recent full eps on quintessentials with new tracks that show that all these guys are hot. big welcome to the ever raw stl (something, smalville, perlon) - his unique style fits in here nicely. great track mate! and finishing off with vakula, well know from his quintessentials 03 release. yes, we keep it deep, raw and real!
the groovers sound is the result of a lot of late nights, forged and crafted with utter devotion to creating a unique sound. all our influences were bought into the studio and from the tension between a love and knowledge of various musical styles and modes, of temperament and personality we found that it clicked. the result of this collaboration between finn campbell-notman and steve ferrand is ten track collection of songs from slow to mid to house tempos. each time we worked on a track or song we asked ourselves >is this a groovers track< and the only criteria in deciding if it was was >does it feel like one or not< this feel that we were searching for is: that bittersweet, syncopated and soulful one that we both love regardless of genre. our influences range from deep deep dancefloor house, early downtempo, latin soul, boogie, southern funk, and shimmering techno
two cool housy minimal slammers: this is 100% club music. we can see the tracks being played heavily by a lot of djs. relaxed but at the same time moving very rhythmically, both tracks have a modern way of getting the party going
set to be huge all over the world, with a crazy amount of big mixers involved the hot pick being tiësto! supported by boys noize, tiësto, busy p, bates45, bingo players, sander van doorn, marco v, benni benassi, steve angello, laidback luke...
sin & soul are back with a new edit series with nicely designed sleeves.
>dunes<: german electronic library-track from 1978
>pope<: rare canadian disco production from 1979
quintessentials is celebrating its 10th release with a compilation of deep, raw and real house music! splitted in 2 parts, >deep, raw and real< features some of the hottest producers around presenting their vision of current house music. part 1 features exclusive tracks by motor city drum ensemble (unstoppable with his own label and countless top remixes), anton zap (the quintessentials homie with a deep dubby track), knarf skipson (still in good shape after his latest 12 inch) and kasper (another top newcomer and name to watch). we say too: thanks for purchasing a real copy! part 2 coming soon: jagged, the zohar, stl, vakula
dutch dj & producer jazper has set a step into a new direction together with jules from romania. jules known for his digital nature alias and jazper known for his trance and progressive productions together with misja helsloot. following their last release on be yourself, they now present pitching pigeon for baroques sister label method... techy rumbling beats & a slick melody, courtesy of the more bells mix... make this a djs must have!
the particular view on a musical future might have been considerably different when olaf hilgenfeld (berlin) met iftah gabbai (jerusalem) for first sessions in 2004. the piano player hilgenfeld used the accordion that time mainly, whilst gabbai was using all instruments available, a computer was among those more by chance. only one year later the duo skinnerbox played regularly on such uplifting, innovative off-partys that came up in the new techno generation again.
that was just the beginning. skinnerbox have developed a purely electronically composed and performed music (partly featuring vocals by elle_p) – that is not based on loops but improvised techno inspired house and minimal house. the roles in the duo are clearly settled: olaf hilgenfeld – moog synthesizer, iftah gabbai – hardware drum machines, max/msp und ableton live.
all these distinct impacts and effects can be heard on their various releases from the last two years, but far better in their live sets. skinnerbox are an experience, taking you on expedition with paralyzing minimal, breaking house, hard-edged techno-jazz, and ambient electronica futurism.
it was a desire to eternalize this play- & colorful diversity, often just caused by the moment, as entire homogeneity. thus, they needed to leave temporarily their environmental techno and minimal house scapes. >king of spades and marmalades< – the result – is a jazz opus wrapped into a disco suitcase. it is a reminiscence as well as going far ahead of daily musical habits, shown not at least by the order of tracks, do not starting with a stunning hit of the album, but with 20 minutes of challenge.
wonderful 1970s p.c.p inspired 20 track. compilation featuring a highly charged mix of psych funk, prog, afro, glam, cosmic, rock and disco. some very rare pieces on here such as the cosmic reggae inspired 360 degrees, the groovy psych prog of the creative craniums and the raw prototype psych funk of kid rock (not that one). others will be better known to lovers of a more progressive dancefloor such as soundforce and diabolic man which has long been a big spin for dj harvey and lovefingers alike.
raz ohara and his odd orchestra return for their second album for get physical. >ii< is the follow up album to the critically acclaimed self titled raz ohara & the odd orchestra cd that is considered being one of the album highlights in 2008. its a warm, organic collection of avant-garde, open-hearted pop music which positively teems with life, a forest of pleasures and possibilities which youll want to lose yourself in indefinitely.
>ii< is certainly less melancholic than its predecessor – its imbued with good feeling, energised by the rhythms and cadences of summer and the great outdoors - but its not euphoric, there is an underlying note of caution, of trepidation. this emotional mix is what makes the record so powerful, especially when allied to a similarly ambiguous musical mix: which imperceptibly melds folk, classic pop, electro-acoustic experimentation and modernist electronics. 10 beautiful songs plus a special download (code included in the artwork) of the single >miracle< make this album a perfect journey through the winter days.
first 12inch release under jamal moss new religion alter ego iamthatiam, a four track exploration of heavy tribal drums and spiritual dub atmospheres. peter gabriels passion ost and chain reaction were the inspiration, and its heavy on the late 80s techno industrial dance versus noise side.
successfully tried and tested on dance floors of all shapes and sizes throughout the world, these never before released cuts have rocked migs sets for a few years now. after countless requests from djs and dance music lovers around the globe, salted is delighted to deliver and share these rare little gems with you all!
clone west coast series continues with more hot releases! after tyrell and mr pauli its the hasbeens (tyrell & overdose) who deliver the heat!. this is as big as you can get it! we could do a lot of talking about the track and the daily struggle of human beings etc... but just listen. top production leaning on classic italo but in a new modern jacket with sharp production... the clone west coast sound :-) simply irresistible
heavyweight vinyl. in this light and on this evening, the new album from editors, represents a significant step forward for the band following the huge successes of debut album the back room and the number 1 follow up an end has a start. there have been many changes to life in editors since an end has a start broke the band worldwide and established the then birmingham based four piece as one of the uks most prominent bands of recent times. bassist russell leech and guitarist chris urbanowicz are now resident in new york while singer tom smith has become a father. these changes added to the sense that in this light and on this evening is the start of a new chapter for editors and the band came together in london for the recording sessions with producer flood at the start of 2009 with a determination to push their sound into wholly new territory.
this project started during the 2007 winter music conference when mr. marquez dropped there a selfmade bootleg of michael jacksons billie jean called mikelata and it was a pure happiness feeling on the dancefloors. 1 year later rocco, danny marques & dj fudge got together for a serious studio session with the perfect voice for this production: ricky galliano, a swiss based party and nightlife personality. the project was ready months before one of the sadest day of musics history happened: michael jackson passed away. now we changed the project in a tribute for the king of pop.
another stellar release from tim xaviers imprint, this time featuring a collaborative work with german talent miro pajic and an ambivalent (m_nus) remix!
deep, funky and diverse releases for the club on vinyl only – tha s the idea behind barbara preisingers new label slices of life. the first release comes from berlin based producer betke who is a longtime companion in the electronic music scene. here, the 2 tracks reveal a whole world of warm and deep sounding beats that makes you move
this track has been getting rinsed out by dj ez regularly on his kiss 100 show and out and about in club land. hes had it on an exclusive for about 2 months, and hes sure made use of that honour. its an instant crowd pleaser with its catchy female vocal hook & fat production. kinda like bassline garage meets booty breaks...
